History

In the Shy Beginning there was silence....

SGP started in 2004 ANZAC DAY, when members Sasse and Diamond (aka Diamond in the Rough) met for the first time. Diamond like many female writers in real life suffers from shyness, but graffiti gave her a voice.

We decided at this point in history that SGP would be a crew to encourage female writers no matter what style they used or what skill level they had, as female graffiti has a much wider range in the hip hop world than most males, however often females do not continue to write due to the male domination the graffiti world.

Gradually through friends in the real world and others we met on social media, numbers grew, with core members including, Sima, SuperG, Viper, Haylow, Devious (DVS) and others that would jam with us when painted like Dusk and ZPasZ. Later Clamity Jane from the US joined and did some rounds while in NZ.

New Shy Beginnings 2014

In 2013, with SGP babies born, new jobs and careers for other members, and in one case the Christchurch earthquake, the crew had become relatively inactive, this was to change when Sanik crossed the ditch and began painting with mad skills. This inspired us to restart the crew. This time, rather than focus on getting other girls started, we wanted to focus on getting those already writing to hone there skills. This has seen two young female writes 2Shy and Sone to join the crew...others too are on the books and keen to represent and we will release there names shortly.
